Patagonia Travel Updates

In a year of uncertainty mixed with hope, we are happy to let you know that EEFF’s season 2021-2022 has been filled with returning and new guests, great fishing, beautiful days and just small hiccups from a few Covid outbreaks. We are happy to share the latest travel update with you as we mark the half-way point of our season.

The official Argentine decree has just been updated, stating that international travelers may enter Argentina  with

  • Complete online Affidavit at least 48 hours before the trip.

  •  Submit COVID-19 health insurance (Coverage for hospitalization, isolation and/or medical transfer services).

The good news for travelers coming to Argentina is that 87% of our population has received at least one vaccine dose and 76% have received full vaccination. As in the US and UK, we are seeing an increase of new cases, thanks to Omicron; however, hospitalizations remain low and cases have been mainly mild. With the easing of entry requirements, the recent reopening of borders with Chile, and the economic stimulation of foreign travel, we do not anticipate new travel restrictions.

As in all our earlier Travel Updates, here are 4 fundamental questions that our extended family of El Encuentro friends and prospective clients continue to ask:

1. Can you currently enter Argentina?

  • YES!

  • Travel requirements from the government include:

  1. COVID-19 Medical Travel Insurance, with coverage of hospitalization services, isolation and / or medical transfers while traveling (appropriate policy is available from Kanna Travel). Your home health insurance policy does not qualify.
  2. An Official Statement (Declaracion Jurada) completed online within 48 hours prior to arrival. Here’s the link DECLARACIÓN JURADA | DNM

2. Once in Argentina, can you travel to the Chubut Province, and ultimately reach the El Encuentro Flyfishing Lodges?

  • Yes!

3. Having reached the El Encuentro Lodge, Valle del Carrileufu or Brook Trout Basecamp, can you move around freely and access all the wonderful Patagonia fly fishing that you traveled so far for?

  • Yes!

 4. Can you return home after your trip?

  • Yes!

  • At this time, the US requires medically approved proof of a Negative Antigen test within 24 hours of your initial return flight to the US. El Encuentro can provide this test for you (cost is $50/test). If you are traveling onward after your stay with El Encuentro, testing is available at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires. It is always recommended to double check your country’s requirements before traveling.

  • If you test positive before you depart, you will have to go into quarantine for a short time. El Encuentro will make arrangements for you.

  • Testing is a part of the world we now live in, and will likely be a part of any travel requirements for the foreseeable future.

  • We have secured the services of a local biotech lab (owned and operated by a dear friend and member of the El Encuentro extended family) to administer and process tests at El Encuentro. This will allow us to provide the necessary testing needed for your return trip home. Tests cost $50/test; can be paid with a credit card.

  • Additionally, should the need arise at any other time during your stay in Patagonia, we have a limited supply of Antigen rapid self tests (BinaxNOW).

  • We suggest you bring your own Covid self-test kits, if you can – much like you would bring any personal medications.
