Gregorio Vázquez
Grego’s interests and education are as broad and colorful as the Patagonian landscape. He may have started fly fishing at age 13, but first became a lawyer in Buenos Aires before he remembered how much he loved to fish. He decided to change his lifestyle and move to Patagonia, settling in Esquel in the early 2000s. He has been guiding at El Encuentro for over 15 years.
In addition to guiding, Grego is an avid entomologist, student of fish ecology, certified casting instructor, and ties most of his own flies. His patience, knowledge, and skills as a teacher enrich Grego’s guiding expertise. His interests in biology fuel his concern for conservation and protection of ecological balances in Patagonia.
In the off-season, Grego devotes his time to painting (oil and acrylic art), reading, tango, and traveling off the beaten path through Central and South America looking for wildlife and soaking in the biodiversity. He built his clay house in Esquel where he lives with his long-time life partner.
